One of the things I mentioned was that JMP is now bundled as part of SAS Enterprise Miner (to match your EM client license).

But I wasn’t sure if it covered SAS 9.2 and 9.3 or just 9.3.

Just had confirmation today from SAS Contracts that its is bundled in both SAS 9.2 and 9.3.

You may need to go and ask for a separate download key as it didn’t come in the standard 9.2 download I just did, but ask away cause its yours!

When trying to open a SAS Report (.srx) in Outlook we got this error.

Looks like the SAS AMO 4.3 plugin relies on the Web Report Studio web services that automatically  get installed when you install the Web tier.

The issue of course is this customer is only using AMO and has not deployed any of the web tier, but in good optimal practice are using Information Maps and .srx reports (created via Enterprise Guide).

So looks like using Outlook to access these .srx is out.

Now I know Kiwi’s (New Zealanders) are known for their number 8 wire approaches and also being frugal (a large number are of course descended from the Scots ;-) , so a number of NZ customers have purchased BI Server and only implemented the SAS Server, Enterprise Guide and AMO, as that meets their current needs.  In these cases it looks like using the Outlook version is out of the question.

And with SAS announcing an AMO/EG only offering again use of .srx reports is out im guessing.

Anyway one positive is after playing briefly with the Outlook capability on my test server, I can actually see the Outlook capability taking over from the Portal eventually.  Why would users want to login to the Portal to get their reports when they can access them directly from within Outlook where they spend so much of their time?

You have to go through the standard windows add/remove programs process for each SAS component/product, or restore a clean copy of the server image in the pre-install state.

(Now why would you do this multiple times you ask, well often becuase you have mucked up the install or you are trying to install a version of SAS that matches your client to test something for them or you)

SAS have issued a tech note that makes life so much easier:

Installation Note 39894: Using the SAS Uninstall Wizard to remove SAS® 9.2 from Microsoft Windows operating environments

The wizard assumes a raft of defaults that you will probably need to overide (i.e c:\) but provides parameter options to let you do this.

And of course if you are on Linux/Unix then there is no Windows registry to get in the way, so ignore the tool and just delete the files!

Customer picked up an issue with not being able to schedule EG 4,2 projects successfully on Windows 64 bit operating systems.

As I have mentioned before we were a little disappointed in the fact that most of the great out-of-the-box content that was in ITRM 2.7 (SAS 8), didn’t seem to make it into ITRM 3.1 (SAS 9.1).

ITRM 3.2 is going to fix all that and wahoo it has been released, doco available at :

One  of our other requirements was integration with Microsoft SCOM logging, which again is available in the new release.

So we have ordered the download order number, we will install it and see.

The current Dataflux release is 8.2 and it is certified with SAS 9.2 so make sure you get a support login to the Dataflux website and download the 8.2 install executable and install that version.

In all the SAS 9.2 install documentation from SAS it mentions Weblogic 9.2, but if you check out:

Oracle WebLogic Server Support for SAS 9.2

You will see Oracle Weblogic 10.3 is supported.  And when you download the install depot from SAS it will actually downloads Weblogic 10.3 in the thirdparty directory for you.

But when you follow the instructions and try and do the install you will probably get an error when the Install Wizard is configuring the web packages.

If you check the install/configure logs you will see this error:

Problem invoking WLST – ava.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError:
Bad version number in .class file

It seems although the install screen asks you for a location to the 1.5 version of the JDK, you actually need the 1.6 version of the JDK for it to work with Weblogic 10.3, according to this tech support note:

Usage Note 36538: The SAS® Deployment Wizard fails when you use Java Development Kit 1.5 with Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3

So when going through the wizard, point to the JDK 1.6 and you are away.

With SAS Enterprise Miner 6.1 on SAS 9.2 the standard port changed to :6412 (for a Lev1 environment)

All the feedback I got stated that they turned off the Public Kiosk in SAS 9.1.3 / Portal 2.x as a matter of course.

Just noticed a SAS Tech support notice “Enabling unchallenged access to content in SAS® Information Delivery Portal 4.2” which outlines how to allow access to the portal without the need to login.

So obviously a few people still wanted it.
