Thanks Suzanne.

Great comment as I (think I) finally understand the difference between the LSF versions and the license changes about to happen.

Interesting about the 30 second rule, never knew that, but cool idea to stop the OEM users getting the full capability.

I remember when LSF used to be bundled in eBI and DI servers licenses and then they were removed from being bundled to being an additional/optional license option. (cant remember if it was dropped from BI or DI first)

I wonder how many sites this license change will effect?

When doing some investigation into redesign of our architecture, I spoke at length with SAS regarding LSF. The 'OEM' version of LSF that is licensed through SAS will only run SAS programs. If you schedule another type of job LSF limits the run time to 30 seconds. A fully functional version of LSF comes with a perpetual license and will cost you about 100K. If you want to keep running the OEM version from SAS you will begin having to pay a separate renewal fee.

To avoid confusion SAS will modify the note on SAS Technical Support Website. Platform Suite for SAS (a.k.a. LSFSUITE) is a SAS product. Beginning with their next renewal, effective September 1st, customers need to license Platform Suite for SAS from SAS at current renewal rates.
